Chief Executive Donald Tsang hopes people show more love to family and friends to build a more harmonious and caring society together.

Delivering his Lunar New Year message today, Mr Tsang said society's advancement should not affect our capacity to cherish the people and things around us.

Mr Tsang said when he was a child, he used to stroll around the flower markets with his family, and receive red packets during Lunar New Year.

"Those warm memories remain fresh in my mind. They were the only days I had new clothes to wear. We were not well off, and we treasured everything around us.

"When I was seven, my father bought a vase for $5 to display the New Year flowers, and it is still used in my home.

"Society advances and the economy progresses, but the capacity to cherish the people and things around us does not change. I hope we can all show more love to our family and friends, and so build a more harmonious and caring society together."

Mr Tsang wished Hong Kong people a blessed, prosperous New Year, and good health.
