Public support for constitutional proposal essential
*

A reform package will be proposed in the Constitutional Development Task Force's fifth report to be published in the autumn, Secretary for Constitutional Affairs Stephen Lam says.

Urging all political parties, regardless of their background, to evaluate the package carefully, he says the Government will do its best to garner community support.

Speaking after attending the Dragon 100 Young Chinese Leaders Forum 2005 this morning, Mr Lam said the public would like to see progress in the electoral methods for returning the Chief Executive in 2007, and for forming the Legislative Council in 2008.

"It is important for Hong Kong to continue to make progress in constitutional terms. We will make every effort to make sure that each and every political party and all representatives of the Legislative Council understand this very important consideration."
