Community involvement key to substainable city

Views heard: Council for Sustainable Development Vice-chairman Edgar Cheng says  outcomes of the forum will be considered before deciding on the new priority areas.
*

Community daily involvement is key to a sustainable city, Council for Sustainable Development Vice-chairman Edgar Cheng says.

Speaking at a stakeholder forum today, Mr Cheng said sustainable development cannot be achieved by the Government alone.

"The council decided to engage the community early and widely in the selection of strategy topics. The stakeholder forum today seeks to invite discussion and comments on your preferred strategy topics. In this way, you would help the council in selecting policy areas for the new engagement process, and developing the related strategy."

Today's forum marks the beginning of the council's second engagement process for a sustainable development strategy for Hong Kong. It is the first time the council has engaged the community directly in the discussion of new priority areas for the strategy. About 200 stakeholders attended the forum.

A report on the forum will be posted on the Sustainable Development Strategy website. The council will consider the outcomes of the forum before deciding on the new priority areas.
