Martin Wheatley has been appointed Securities & Futures Commission Executive Director (Supervision of Markets) for three years from June 6. Five new members have also been appointed to the commission's advisory committee for two years from June 1.

Seven incumbent advisory committee members - Thaddeus Beczak, Ambrose Cheung, Paul Chow, Paul Fan, Christine Loh, Samuel Poon and Blair Pickerell - have been re-appointed.

The Government thanked retiring advisory committee members - Stephen Hui, Roger Luk and Dr Eden Woon - for their contributions.

Mr Wheatley has extensive experience in the securities industry. He was previously the London Stock Exchange's Deputy Chief Executive.

The post is responsible for the supervision of Hong Kong Exchanges and its clearing houses, and strategic planning for and development of the city's securities and futures markets.
