Gov't to appeal pay reduction judgment
*

The Government will lodge an appeal to the Court of Final Appeal seeking a review of the Court of the First Instance's ruling today that the 2004-05 pay reduction is inconsistent with Article 100 of the Basic Law.

Secretary for the Civil Service Joseph Wong said: "This judgment is within our expectation because the Court of First Instance is bound by an earlier judgment made by the Court of Appeal on the same issue."

He said the Government has decided to continue to implement the pay reduction in respect of the 04-05 pay reduction legislation, adding that the decision remains unchanged.
