Maldives tsunami victims get $1m grant
*

The Government will give $1 million cash grant to the Maldives Government to provide disaster relief to tsunami victims.

The Maldives Honorary Consul in Hong Kong Bob Harilela thanked the Hong Kong Government for helping the country.

In view of the enormous freight cost of sending the relief supplies from Hong Kong to Maldives, Mr Harilela believed the grant in cash would be more effective and would assist with their immediate relief work.

The Government has arranged for the delivery of relief supplies to Indonesia and Thailand at the request of their governments.

In line with the established arrangements for grants made under the Disaster Relief Fund, the recipient country will provide an evaluation report on the disbursement of grant in six months.
