Late fireman lauded for bravery
*

Late Senior Fireman Cheung Chun-wai has been posthumously awarded the Gold Medal for Bravery for the self-sacrifice he displayed in rescuing a person who fell into a Shau Kei Wan manhole in July.

The medal will be presented at the 2004 Honours & Awards Presentation Ceremony on October 9.

On July 7, a report was received that person had fallen into a sewage drain in the carpark of Smiling Shau Kei Wan Plaza. When Mr Cheung arrived at the scene he volunteered to immediately enter the manhole for a snatch rescue, due to time concerns. However, he was overcome by toxic gases and died.
