Vacancy opens in Southern District Council

The office of Miu Wah-chang, an elected member of the Southern District Council's Tin Wan Constituency, has become vacant after he was disqualified from holding office on August 2.

 

Under the District Councils Ordinance, an elected member is disqualified from holding office if, after being elected, he or she is convicted of any offence prescribed by regulations in force under the Electoral Affairs Commission Ordinance.

 

Mr Miu was convicted of offences under Section 104(1) and (3) of the Electoral Affairs Commission (Electoral Procedure) (District Councils) Regulation, Cap 541F and Section 7 of the Electoral Affairs Commission Ordinance, Cap 541 at the Eastern Magistracy on August 2 and fined $500.

 

The Director of Home Affairs will declare the vacancy by notice in the Gazette today.
