Standing Committee working to benefit HK

*

Secretary for Constitutional Affairs Stephen Lam says the community, including lawmakers, will understand gradually that the National People's Congress Standing Committee is acting for the benefit of Hong Kong.

Its decision has set in motion Hong Kong's political development according to the Basic Law.

Mr Lam said the decision has been made for Hong Kong's long-term benefit.

He said the Basis Law clearly states Hong Kong's administrative, legislative and judicial power, and the Special Administrative Region executes the power which comes solely from the Central Authorities.

Mr Lam said all issues should be handled according to principles under the Basic Law.

The community will understand the committee's decision has created room for a steady development of election systems.
