A total of 127 applications for over $138 million have been received in the first round of the Sustainable Development Fund scheme.
During a meeting of the Council for Sustainable Development today, members welcomed the positive response from community and other groups to the launch of the $100 million fund.
Results announced in March
Education & Publicity Sub-committee chairman Christine Fang said many applications have come from non-government organisations in the social and environmental sectors, as well as from schools and other educational or academic institutions.
"Vetting of the applications has begun and we plan to begin notifying applicants of the results in March," she said.
The council also discussed a report on progress with the formulation of a Sustainable Development Strategy.
Members agreed the council should initially focus on the following three areas in testing the process for developing the strategy:
* urban planning priorities;
* solid waste management; and,
* renewable energy.
The sub-committee will consider how best to set up support groups to help develop consultation documents and engage the community in open dialogue on these issues.
