He said the campaign aims to bring in as many valid applications for voter registration and updating the addresses of registered electors as possible.
It is especially targeted at young people aged 18 to 25.
The 2003 District Council elections will be held on November 23. The deadline for eligible electors to apply for registration is July 16.
Registered electors have to inform the Registration & Electoral Office of their updated residential addresses on or before August 29.
A range of promotion activities will be organised and registration teams and counters will be available to facilitate eligible electors to sign up as electors, or for registered electors to update their residential addresses.
Voter registration assistants will also conduct household visits to newly developed residential areas, such as Tseung Kwan O, Tung Chung, Tin Shui Wai and Aldrich Bay.
Letters containing campaign messages are being sent to all households which have moved into new private developments completed after the last major voter registration campaign in 2000.
Octopus cardholders and discount book coupons will be distributed as souvenir gifts to newly registered electors and registered electors who have updated their address records with the office from June 1 onwards.
Electoral Affairs Commission Chairman Justice Woo Kwok-hing, Director of Information Services Yvonne Choi, Director of Home Affairs Janet Wong and Electoral Affairs Commission member Norman Leung also attended today's event.
