HK swimmer wins another medal

Chief Executive John Lee today congratulated Hong Kong swimming athlete Siobhan Bernadette Haughey for winning Olympic bronze in the Women's 100m Freestyle event, the fourth medal won by the Hong Kong, China Delegation at the 2024 Paris Olympics.

 

Expressing his heartfelt congratulations to Miss Haughey and her coach, Mr Lee said her win brings more good news to Hong Kong.

 

“Siobhan has maintained a high level of performance and remained fearless against the world's best athletes throughout the competitions. She has now won two medals in a row, setting another brilliant result. All Hong Kong people and I are proud of her.”

 

Mr Lee also recognised and appreciated the efforts and dedication of all Hong Kong athletes at the Games.

 

“Driven by strong determination, they have undergone rigorous training and competed with their utmost, demonstrating their talents regardless of the results.

 

“Hong Kong people have witnessed the passion, unwavering efforts and dedication of each athlete towards sports. We support and commend them. Their unyielding professionalism and sportsmanship have made me and the people of Hong Kong proud,” he added.

 

Noting that this is Miss Haughey’s second medal in the Paris Olympic Games, Secretary for Culture, Sports & Tourism Kevin Yeung said it demonstrates her extraordinary skills.

 

“We are thrilled and proud of her.”

 

Together with the bronze she won in the Women's 200m Freestyle event earlier, Miss Haughey has bagged two bronze medals at these Games.

 

The Hong Kong, China Delegation's medal tally includes the gold won earlier by fencer Vivian Kong in the Women's Épée Individual event and another gold claimed by fencer Cheung Ka-long in the Men's Foil Individual event.
