CE congratulates Vivian Kong

Chief Executive John Lee congratulated Hong Kong fencer Vivian Kong and her coach for winning the gold medal in the Women's Épée Individual event at the 2024 Paris Olympic Games.

 

It marks the first medal for Hong Kong, China at this Games.

 

Mr Lee said that as with many members of the public, he has been cheering for Miss Kong.

 

“We are thrilled that with her outstanding performance, superb fencing skills and perseverance during the competition, she has earned the well-deserved gold medal.

 

“She has once again made history for Hong Kong fencing and proved the extraordinary capabilities of Hong Kong athletes, making all Hong Kong people proud.”

 

Mr Lee added that he wishes the Hong Kong, China Delegation will continue to achieve remarkable results in other events to win honour for the city.

 

Secretary for Culture, Sports & Tourism Kevin Yeung, who is at the Games in person, also extended his congratulations and shared the joy of winning with Miss Kong and her team immediately.

 

Mr Yeung said with her superb performance and keen tactics in the competition, Miss Kong claimed victory and realised the dream of Hong Kong citizens. 

 

“Witnessing the triumphant moment firsthand, I am both touched and delighted by her performance and demeanour of a great athlete. I believe Hong Kong citizens shared the joy as well.”

 

Miss Kong has achieved an outstanding performance in recent years, taking home the bronze in the Women's Épée Individual at the 19th Asian Games Hangzhou as well as her third gold medal at the 2023 Asian Fencing Championships.
