Seven of 20 water samples taken from Shatin Tsung Tsin Secondary School have been found to exceed the World Health Organisation lead limit, the Education Bureau announced today.
The samples were taken from the school on October 13 and 19.
Five of the tainted samples were taken from drinking fountains while the remaining two were from the taps of the parents' resource room and the home economics room.
The bureau has begun installing lead-reducing filters at the school's other drinking water outlets and will provide assistance as appropriate.
The Department of Health will arrange blood tests for two of the school's staff who are lactating mothers.
The bureau, with technical advice from the Architectural Services Department, will also discuss follow-up inspection of the school's internal water supplies system with the school authorities and those involved in its construction.
So far 1,160 drinking water samples have been taken for testing from 434 kindergartens and 34 schools.
Except for the eight samples from the wall-mounted water dispensers of six kindergartens and seven samples from this school, all drinking water samples have passed the test.
