Teachers urged not to boycott

September 29, 2014

The Education Bureau has expressed deep regret over the Professional Teachers' Union's initiation of a class and teaching boycott by teachers.

The bureau reiterated that it has all along respected all teachers and urges them to uphold professionalism and make every effort to care for students and not to interfere with their normal schooling.

It noted the Subsidised Secondary Schools Council, Association of the Heads of Secondary Schools, various school sponsoring bodies and the Federation of Education Workers earlier stated that they do not support secondary school students' class boycotts.

They also took the view that schools' educational and professional autonomy must be protected, and all external political influence and pressure must be kept away from school campuses.

Meanwhile, various districts' Federations of Parent-Teacher Associations also issued a joint statement against any teachers' strike and students' class boycotts, it added.
