New recruits:  Chinese People's Liberation Army Hong Kong Garrison Commander-in-Chief Tan Benhong and Commissioner of Police Stephen Lo congratulate probationary inspectors.

Thirty-four probationary inspectors and 239 recruit constables graduated from the Police College today.

Chinese People's Liberation Army Hong Kong Garrison Commander-in-Chief Tan Benhong inspected the passing-out parade, encouraging the graduates to rise to the challenges ahead and continue to uphold the motto of “Serving the community with pride and care” for the city’s rule of law and the people's safety.

“The rule of law is one of the core values of Hong Kong, and that the Police Force is always one of the unwavering guardians of this value. Since Hong Kong’s return to the Motherland, the force has committed to supporting the Hong Kong Special Administrative Region Government in administering Hong Kong in accordance with the law, and fully implementing the ‘one country, two systems’ principle and the Basic Law for the prosperity and stability of Hong Kong.”

He said that in the face of a fluctuating political and social environment in recent years, Police have acted in strict accordance with the law to resolve challenges, including the Occupy Movement, the Mong Kok riot and illegal immigration, and combated criminal activity.

Noting the Hong Kong Garrison and Police maintain a good relationship, Mr Tan called for more communication and exchanges between the two forces.
