The Department of Justice is liaising with Police so that prosecutions over the Occupy Central protests are handled in a timely manner.
Secretary for Justice Rimsky Yuen told legislators today the department has added the Public Order Events section to its newly revised Prosecution Code.
All prosecution decisions will be made in accordance with the law, the Prosecution Code and evidence, totally free from any political, media or public pressure, he said, adding there is no exception to the Public Order Events section.
He said the time needed to provide legal advice depends on the nature and complexity of the case.
The department will provide legal advice to law enforcement agencies including the Police as fast as possible, he added.
