Pedestrian zones opened

November 04, 2014

Pedestrian zones on Chater Road, Central, and East Point Road, Causeway Bay, have been suspended to allow traffic flow, the Transport Department announced today.

The arrangement will be in place until further notice and to ease traffic congestion on Hong Kong Island caused by the illegal occupation movement.

A section of Chater Road between Pedder Street and Jackson Road was originally a traffic-free zone from 7am to midnight on Sundays and public holidays.

The Causeway Bay pedestrianised area on Lockhart Road east of Cannon Street, East Point Road, and Great George Street west of Paterson Street was originally open from 4pm to midnight Mondays to Fridays, and from noon to midnight Saturdays, Sundays and public holidays.

People and motorists are being advised to pay attention to the new arrangements.

A total of 221 bus routes are still affected by the protests with eight routes suspended and 213 diverted.

Twenty green minibus routes that use Harcourt Road, Nathan Road and Argyle Street are still diverted or suspended.
