A water quality task force will be set up to investigate the incident in which lead was found in drinking water samples from Kai Ching Estate.
Secretary for Development Paul Chan at a press conference said the task force will conduct a thorough investigation on the causes and give recommendations.
The Deputy Director of Water Supplies will chair the group. Members will include representatives from the Housing Department, Department of Health and Government Laboratory, as well as experts and scholars in water quality.
Mr Chan also noted that the Water Supplies Department has set up six temporary water supply points at Kai Ching Estate to provide water to residents.
The department is also following up on water works projects recently completed by the licensed plumber concerned, in Kowloon City Government Offices and a Chinese University of Hong Kong hostel. Water samples from these buildings will be taken for lead level tests.
