Korea travel alert cancelled

August 01, 2015

The Government today removed the Red Outbound Travel Alert for Korea. It also lowered the response level of the Preparedness Plan for Middle East Respiratory Syndrome from "serious" to "alert".

The Department of Health lifted its travel health advice to avoid unnecessary travel to Korea.

There has been no new case of Middle East Respiratory Syndrome in Korea for the past 28 days since the isolation of the last case on July 3.

The Food & Health Bureau advised that the red travel alert for Korea be removed.

Since the activation of the Serious Response Level on June 8, as of noon yesterday, 403 suspected MERS cases had been reported to the Centre for Health Protection. All tested negative.

The centre reminded doctors that patients who travelled to Korea on or before July 31 who develop compatible symptoms within 14 days still meet the reporting criteria and should be promptly notified to the centre.
