The Centre for Food Safety is investigating Globalway Corporation, which is believed to have exported lard for animal feed as edible lard to Taiwan’s Chang Guann Company.
The centre’s Consultant Dr Ho Yuk-yin told the media today Globalway bought 87.7 tonnes of lard from Upswing Company from March to May. They were exported without any further processing.
Upswing’s sales invoice said the lard is fit for animal feed, while Globalway’s sales invoice said the lard can be used for food manufacturing and is fit for human consumption.
The centre is seeking legal advice and will consider criminal investigation.
Dr Ho also said all 51 food and lard samples collected by the centre have passed safety tests.
