Man tested for coronavirus

March 29, 2013
The Centre for Health Protection has received a report from United Christian Hospital of a suspected case of severe respiratory disease associated with novel coronavirus, involving a 55-year-old man.

The man, with chronic illness, fell ill yesterday and was admitted to the hospital for isolation and treatment today. He is stable.

He and his wife travelled to Italy from March 18 to 26. They stopped in transit in Dubai at the airport for about four hours on March 27, and returned to Hong Kong on the same day. His wife has no symptoms.

His chest X-ray was clear. Laboratory test results are expected tomorrow.

No human infection with this virus has been identified so far in Hong Kong.
