UK reports new novel coronavirus case
February 13, 2013
The Department of Health is monitoring another novel coronavirus case the UK's Health Protection Agency confirmed, a family member and close personal contact of its 10th case, announced earlier.
The new case involved a UK resident who does not have any recent travel history and is receiving intensive care treatment in a Birmingham hospital. This case brings the total number of confirmed cases across the globe to 11, three of which are in the UK.
The Centre for Health Protection will seek more information on these cases from the World Health Organisation and Health Protection Agency.
Locally, the centre will continue its surveillance mechanism with public and private hospitals, practising doctors and the airport for any suspected cases of novel coronavirus associated with severe respiratory disease. No human infection with this virus has been identified so far in Hong Kong.
The centre advises travellers with respiratory symptoms returning from affected countries to wear a facial mask and seek medical attention.
