The Electoral Affairs Commission has tabled guidelines updating the number of geographical constituency seats in the upcoming Legislative Council election, maximum election expenses, and the subsidy rate of financial assistance for election candidates.
The proposed guidelines, released today for public consultation until April 1, are based on the existing LegCo Election guidelines with alterations to reflect amendments made to electoral legislation and proposed amendments under scrutiny by legislators.
The guidelines align the deadlines for submitting election returns for all candidates in the same election and update the key dates of the voter registration.
They also remind that materials to be published for voting purposes should comply with legislative requirements for incurring election expenses on behalf of candidates, since such materials may be understood as referring to certain candidates and regarded as election advertisements.
The 2016 LegCo General Election will be held on September 4 to return 70 LegCo members from five geographical constituencies and 29 functional constituencies.
