Chief Executive CY Leung today called on lawmakers to support the Government's political reform proposal, saying that just a few more votes are needed for the package to be passed.
Speaking during a visit to Toronto, Mr Leung said it was not easy to secure the two-thirds majority needed in the Legislative Council to pass such a controversial issue as constitutional reform.
He noted that "politics is the art of the possible" while urging the lawmakers who had pledged to veto the proposal to be rational and pragmatic about why they were opposing it.
Mr Leung stressed that the Government had put a lot of time and energy into constitutional reform over the past two years and regardless of whether the political reform package was passed, it was time to turn its focus to economic and livelihood issues.
