Chief Executive CY Leung has called on pan-democratic legislators to actively engage in the second phase constitutional reform consultation to work towards a consensus and take Hong Kong’s constitutional development to the next stage.
He told reporters today that the newly launched two-month consultation is an important period and he hopes the public and lawmakers recognise that if the current opportunity to achieve universal suffrage is missed, it cannot be predicted when the chance will come again.
Mr Leung stressed that Hong Kong’s reform must adhere to the constitutional requirements stipulated in the Basic Law and the National People’s Congress Standing Committee decision.
