Chief Executive CY Leung has rejected the students' request to restart the constitutional reform process.
Speaking to the media today, Mr Leung said such a move would mean overturning the National People's Congress Standing Committee's decision on August 31, which is impracticable.
He also expressed concern for the students on hunger strike, adding that Hong Kong’s political reform must be based on the Basic Law and the NPC Standing Committee's decisions.
Mr Leung urged the students to put forward their views during the next round of public consultation on constitutional reform.
