Chief Executive CY Leung has reiterated that the Government places great importance on sports development as well as the contributions by the sports sector.
The Chief Executive's Office issued a statement tonight regarding remarks made by Chief Executive CY Leung at a media session today.
"When commenting on the design of the election system today, the Chief Executive aimed to point out that both the past Election Committee and the future Nominating Committee have to achieve balanced representation as required by the Basic Law so as to reflect the social functions of different sectors in society. The allocation of seats in the committee is not determined by population or economic value," it said.
"All along, the Chief Executive and the SAR Government have placed great importance to sports development in Hong Kong as well as the contributions by the sports sector. They fully support the promotion of sport in three directions: sport for the whole community, cultivating elite athletes and making Hong Kong the place for major sports events."
