The second round of the public consultation on constitutional reform will be conducted by the end of this year.
Chief Secretary Carrie Lam told lawmakers today that after the National People’s Congress Standing Committee has determined there is a need to amend the method for selecting the Chief Executive, the Government will announce the reform proposals and seek the views of the community.
The proposals will comply with the Basic Law and the standing committee’s decisions.
Mrs Lam said political reform is very significant to the democratic development of Hong Kong, and urged the community not to miss the opportunity.
