The Central and Hong Kong governments share the same common goal as the Hong Kong people to implement universal suffrage for the Chief Executive election in 2017.
That was the message today from National People's Congress Standing Committee Deputy Secretary-General Li Fei, speaking to the media with NPCSC Legislative Affairs Commission Vice-Chairperson Zhang Rongshun and Hong Kong & Macau Affairs Office Deputy Director Feng Wei.
Mr Li said Hong Kong's constitutional development must comply with the Basic Law and National People's Congress interpretations and decisions.
According to Basic Law Article 45, the power to nominate Chief Executive candidates is exclusively vested in the nominating committee, he noted.
The Central Government is happy to discuss with all parties ways to push forward Hong Kong’s political reform, he added.
