Reports on the public consultation on constitutional reform will be submitted to the National People’s Congress Standing Committee today, Chief Executive CY Leung said.
Noting that some people proposed postponing the reports' submission, Mr Leung said he did consider the idea, but decided to submit them as scheduled.
One report concerns the results of the five-month public consultation on methods for electing the Chief Executive in 2017. The Chief Executive himself compiled the other report which is addressed to the central government.
He said there would be a lot of work to be carried out after the standing committee makes its decision in August on the methods for selecting the Chief Executive in 2017and for forming the Legislative Council in 2016.
The work includes preparing and passing the legislation for the Chief Executive’s election, he added.
Chief Secretary Carrie Lam, Secretary for Justice Rimsky Yuen and Secretary for Constitutional & Mainland Affairs Raymond Tam will brief lawmakers on the reform reports this afternoon. Afterwards, Mr Leung and the three officials will hold a press conference.
