Chief Secretary Carrie Lam has reiterated that the Government is fully committed to consulting the public on constitutional development.
Speaking to reporters today, she said her remarks after a Basic Law seminar yesterday did not discuss Prof Rao Geping’s comments on the “love the country and love Hong Kong” requirement for the Chief Executive.
She only stated the discussion at the seminar set a definitive tone on the power of the nomination committee, which, according to the basic law, holds the power to nominate Chief Executive candidates, she said.
Constitutional development discussion must be based on the legal framework set out in the Basic Law, she added.
