Chief Secretary Carrie Lam has urged the public to focus on issues related to the nomination committee, including its composition and nomination procedures.
Speaking to the media after attending a Basic Law seminar today, Mrs Lam reiterated that the power of nominating Chief Executive candidates rests with the nomination committee.
She said reform proposals must abide by the Basic Law and the National People's Congress Standing Committee's decisions and interpretations, adding that any proposal to replace or disregard the nomination committee departs from the Basic Law.
Mrs Lam appealed to the community to seize the chance to discuss reform issues during the time remaining in the consultation period.
