Beijing's right to decide HK future
March 05, 2014
The Central Government has the responsibility and right to decide Hong Kong’s constitutional development, and people should not neglect this foundation during political reform discussion.
This was the message from Chief Secretary Carrie Lam to the media today, saying the Central Government must appoint the Chief Executive, which is a Basic Law provision.
She said the National People’s Congress Standing Committee will take into account views submitted in the public consultation on political reform, before deciding whether changes should be made to Chief Executive and Legislative Council elections.
She reminded all stakeholders that Hong Kong’s constitutional development must comply with the law and constitution.
