CE still willing to meet groups
September 08, 2012
Chief Executive CY Leung is willing to meet with the Alliance Against National Education and other concern groups, but under no pre-set conditions, the Chief Executive’s Office said.
In a statement issued today, the office said the Chief Executive has met with groups and individuals from the education sector in the past two days to seek their views on settling the present controversies.
He sent letters of invitation to the alliance at about 5pm yesterday inviting them for a meeting.
The alliance asked that the meeting be conducted in an open manner with media coverage and the office agreed. However, the alliance has put forward three pre-set conditions for the meeting; hence, no arrangements have yet been made.
Secretary for Security Lai Tung-kwok told the media today the Chief Executive and Chief Secretary had clearly said that there was no clearing plan. The Government is concerned about the health of the protesters and those who took part in hunger strike.
He said the job of the Police is crowd control. He hoped people could proceed in an orderly fashion and look out for each other, adding people should contact the healthcare staff outside the Central Government Offices if they are feeling unwell.
