Woman ill after eating puffer fish
December 27, 2012
The Centre for Health Protection today reminded people not to consume puffer fish, after a woman fell ill from eating it.
The 60-year-old fell ill five hours after eating the fish for dinner yesterday with her friends in Shenzhen.
She was admitted to Tuen Mun Hospital this morning and is stable.
Puffer fish contains tetrodotoxin, a heat-stable toxin that does not decompose during boiling or cooking. The fish should be avoided to prevent poisoning, the centre said.
