Woman ill after eating puffer fish
December 21, 2012
The Centre for Health Protection today reminded people not to consume puffer fish, after a woman fell ill from eating it.
The 22-year-old woman fell ill about two hours after having the fish for lunch yesterday at her home in Kowloon City.
She was sent to Queen Elizabeth Hospital last night and is now stable.
Puffer fish contains tetrodotoxin, a heat-stable toxin that does not decompose during boiling or cooking. The fish should be avoided to prevent poisoning, the centre said.
