Police will conduct random breath tests during the World Cup period from June 11 to July 12, in an ongoing crackdown against drink driving.

From May 20 to 24, Police arrested six drivers for drink-driving offences. 

They were found to have alcohol proportions in their breath exceeding the prescribed limit. During the five-day blitz, 1,727 drivers had breath tests.

Since the Road Traffic Legislation (Amendment) Ordinance 2008 took effect on February 9 last year, 64,082 drivers had been breath tested. Of them, 360 were arrested.

Drink-driving is liable to a fine up to $25,000, three years in jail and 10 driving-offence points.
