A 59-year-old Mainland man has been fined $3,000 by Fanling Magistracy for importing animals without a valid permit.
He appeared in court today after Customs officers intercepted him at Lo Wu Control Point yesterday. Four puppies without permits were found in his carry bag.
The Agriculture, Fisheries & Conservation Department said importation of dogs and cats requires a valid import permit and health certificate. Offenders face a year's jail and a $50,000 fine.
