Hong Kong and Israel have signed a memorandum of understanding to enhance co-operation in customs matters.

Commissioner of Customs & Excise Richard Yuen and Head of the Customs Directorate of the Israel Tax Authority Doron Arbely signed the document in Jerusalem today.

Mr Yuen said the document signifies the commitment of the two administrations to enhance co-operation in combating transnational smuggling and other crime.

Both parties are committed to co-operating more closely through mutual administrative assistance on matters relating to information exchange and enforcement of customs laws.

The Customs & Excise Department has so far signed pacts with 16 counterparts, including the Mainland.
