The Department of Justice will lead a delegation to visit Shanghai and neighbouring cities from tomorrow to promote Hong Kong's legal services and a forum to be held on July 6 to coincide with World Expo 2010.
The Hong Kong Legal Services - Global Vision forum, to be held in Shanghai, is part of the department's promotion of Hong Kong as a leading legal services and dispute-resolution centre.
Eminent lawyers will speak on topics relating to legal risks in international trade, corporate finance and governance, and resolving disputes in Hong Kong. Representatives of Mainland enterprises, legal practitioners and government officials will be invited to attend.
Secretary for Justice Wong Yan Lung said: "With China's rise as one of the great economic powers in the world and its enterprises becoming increasingly outward looking, demand for legal services has grown significantly. I believe Hong Kong is in a position to share our experience with the corporate and legal sectors of the Mainland."
Mr Wong said the expo will be an opportune time for Hong Kong to demonstrate its qualities as a world-class city and its strength as a regional centre of legal services and dispute resolution.
The delegation, led by Deputy Solicitor General Frank Poon, will meet government officials, representatives of legal bodies and the business sector during the visit.
