Customs officers have seized 8.52 million illicit cigarettes worth $16 million, and with a duty potential of $10 million, at Tuen Mun River Trade Terminal.

They were found yesterday during the inspection of a 40-foot container declared to be carrying "ovens" aboard an incoming river trade vessel from Huangpu Port, Guangzhou.

The container was destined for the UK via Hong Kong.
