Road safety campaign to target seniors
*
Hong Kong Police

A citywide road safety campaign will be held from March 5 to 18 to educate pedestrians, particularly the elderly.

During the first week Police will distribute publicity leaflets throughout the city, including traffic accident blackspots.

People who have committed minor offences may be given verbal warnings in the first week. Stringent enforcement action will be taken to deal with jaywalkers and other pedestrian offenders during the second week.

There were 3,534 pedestrian casualties in traffic accidents last year, in which 69 people were killed. Among those, 40 people, or 58%, were aged 60 or more.
