Have your say: Commissioner of Police Tang King-shing says the Government respects people's right to freedom of speech and assembly. |
Police will enhance communication with young demonstrators, Commissioner of Police Tang King-shing says, adding the Government respects people's right to freedom of speech and assembly.
Speaking on a radio talk show today, Mr Tang said ensuring public safety is always the major concern and the Police are doing their best to facilitate the smooth conduct of public assemblies and demonstrations.
Noting some young demonstrators might have ignored other people's needs when expressing their views, the commissioner said Police will find ways to bolster communication with organisers and young people.
When asked whether Police manpower deployment for public assemblies and petitions was 'more than enough', Mr Tang said the arrangements were appropriate because such public activities involved a lot of road closures and traffic diversions.
In response to a traffic accident in which a Police officer got a slap in the face, he expressed regret over the incident, stressing traffic officers' enforcement actions aim to protect people's lives.
