Two South Asian illegal workers holding immigration recognisance forms were jailed 14 months by Sha Tin Magistracy yesterday. They admitted taking up employment while being in Hong Kong illegally.

A 24-year-old South Asian was found preparing food inside a kitchen and delivering cooked food to customers in a Yau Ma Tei restaurant on November 18. He entered Hong Kong in April 2007 and has stayed unlawfully since. In June 2007 he was arrested and released on recognisance before being hired as an odd-job worker at the restaurant.

Another South Asian, 28, was found working in a Mong Kok hawking stall during the same operation. He has remained in the city unlawfully since November 2007, and was arrested and released on recognisance. He was then hired as an odd-job worker at the stall.
