36 netted in anti-illegal employment blitz

Thirty-three illegal workers and three employers have been arrested in an anti-illegal employment crackdown in the New Territories.

 

The Immigration and Labour Departments worked with the Police from 8am to 5pm today. The Government Flying Service also sent a helicopter to assist.

 

Officers raided 42 workplaces in Kwai Chung, Tsuen Wan, Tsing Yi, Sha Tin, Pat Heung, Tin Shui Wai and Ta Kwu Ling districts, and checked 293 people's proof of identity.

 

Among the arrested workers, five were non-ethnic Chinese illegal immigrants, two were non-ethnic Chinese visitors, one was a Chinese illegal immigrant and 25 were Mainland visitors. Seven of the non-ethnic Chinese who were arrested held recognisance forms.
