Tougher drink-driving laws broached

*

Enforcement will be stepped up and tougher penalties proposed to fight drink-driving, the Transport & Housing Bureau says.

Enhanced laws will be tabled at the Legislative Council in the second quarter of 2010.

Drink-driving cases have fallen more than 70% in the last year after Police started random breath tests on February 9.

Police will remain vigilant to ensure drink drivers are caught and brought to justice. Drink drivers are liable to three years' jail, and 10 years' jail for dangerous driving causing death.
