3 illegal workers jailed

Immigration Department

Sha Tin Magistracy has jailed three South Asians for up to 14 months for illegal employment.

During an operation on December 21, a 50-year-old man was found working in the kitchen of a Sai Kung restaurant.

He entered Hong Kong from the Mainland in April and was employed as an odd-job worker at the restaurant. He pleaded guilty to one count of taking employment while being a person who remained in Hong Kong without the authority of the Director of Immigration after landing in Hong Kong unlawfully. He was jailed 14 months.

The two other men, aged 37 and 34, were working in the same restaurant and were charged for breaching their conditions of stay. They were each jailed five months.
