Immigration Department

About 10.37 million passengers are forecast to pass through immigration checkpoints during Christmas and New Year holiday period, up 8% on last year.

The Immigration Department said 3.8 million passengers, an average of 272,000 daily, will pass through Lo Wu December 22 to January 4.

The busiest day for inbound traffic at Lo Wu will be December 27 with 184,000 passengers, while December 25 will see 187,000 passengers travelling outbound.

About 1.51 million passengers, a daily average of 108,000, is forecast for Lok Ma Chau control point. The busiest day will be December 27.

To cope with the traffic the department has minimised leave for staff working at checkpoints and arranged extra officers to be posted. Additional security will be deployed at busy checkpoints to provide crowd management support.

To avoid congestion during peak periods the department suggests cross-boundary passengers travel during less busy times.
