Good example: Secretary for Security Ambrose Lee urges Tai Po students to back the drug-testing trial scheme.

Secretary for Security Ambrose Lee urges Tai Po secondary students and their parents to support the drug-testing trial scheme so it can be successfully executed next month, adding ketamine seizures in the first 10 months of this year more than tripled last year's figure.

Speaking after today's Fight Crime Committee meeting, Mr Lee said almost 460kg of ketamine was seized, up 353kg on the same period last year, while cocaine seizures surged 89.8% to 112kg.

Mr Lee appealed to students and parents to carefully study the scheme consent letter given to them and sign and return it as early as possible after family discussions, reiterating the Government is very concerned about youth drug abuse.

Overall crime numbers fell 0.9% to 64,690 and violent crimes dropped 1.2% to 11,879 in the January-October period. Falls were seen in robberies (-21.3%), car thefts (-20.5%), burglaries (-8%), serious assaults (-2.7%) and criminal damage (-0.6%).

Homicide, criminal intimidation, shop thefts and rapes, however, rose 29.4%, 22.5%, 17.5% and 3.3%.
